M/ENGINE STARTING PROBLEMS
SYMPTOM REPORTED BY VESSEL
Please note, after arrival at anchorage point in Vizag, when we tried to try out the engine in Ahd. & Ast. direction, engine found not responding. No alarm or shut down condition found. After repetative attempts, when engine did not start, decided to manouvre from Emergency/local control. Engine taken on emergency control and found working. After dropping anchor, again engine control taken to E/R Control. Found Engine was not starting and M/E load indicator showing maximum position. Checked the governor linkage, found stuck in maximum position.
Governor servo-motor linkage found slipped from its groove and fuel rack positions are in maximum position. We tried to fix the servo linkage in its groove but not able to do so. In this condition if we tried out the engine even from emergency control console, ther are chances that engine will not stop even after stop signal. Attached please find the photographs for better understanding. Requested to arrange the technician for o'hauling of the manoeuvring system.

As per our Telcon a short while ago, noted that the engines can now be maneuvered from the Emergency stand/ ECR & Bridge.
Please be guided that during bridge maneuvering if a kick is missed the Automation will lead to 3 more attempts to start the engine which will lead to loss of Air Pressure.
It is advised that the engine be maneuvered from the ECR, keeping strict monitoring, with all E/R personnel attending to the machinery during all maneuvering when berthing/un-berthing OR in narrow / congested waters.
Ensure both main air Compressors are in Auto and the Air Reservoirs pressure are maintained.
